Form EastEnders Star Jan Graveson has spoken openly about how June Brown, who played Dot Branning on the show, wanted her character Disa O’Brien to return.
In case you missed it, a series of former EastEnders Stars return to the show for Dot Branning’s funeral episodes, and Graveson is one of those stars. This will be the show’s homage to a long time EastEnders Star June Brown, who passed away earlier this year at the age of 95.
Joining Graveson are former cast members Jacqueline Jossa (Lauren Branning), Lord Michael Cashman (Colin Russell), Gary Hailes (Barry Clark), Tom Watt (Lofty Holloway) and Linda Davidson (Mary Smith) returning to Walford.

And now, in an interview, the actor opened up about what it was like returning to the show and how June Brown always hoped Disa would return to the show.
“It’s something I’ve always wanted in the back of my mind. When my agent called me and said EastEnders was on the phone I thought. ‘Nice! Fantastic!’ I was so excited and absolutely delighted. June always hoped I would go back. She loved our scenes and our acting together,” she said.
She also spoke about why it was so important for her to go back to honor June.

“It was important because seeing Dot off means seeing June free again. When I think of June, I think of Dot, and when I think of Dot, I think of June because she summed up so much of herself in this character. It’s scary. She was amazing at it,” she said.
“I got on well and have become very good friends with June through working on EastEnders. Our friendship lasted to the end. I was very close to her because she was unique and very outgoing and we shared the same birthday which she was always talking about,” she continued.
“During difficult times in my life, I went to June’s, stayed at her house, and she let me stay there for days. I did a lot of animal welfare work and June accompanied me to all these events. She was a brilliant person,” she added.
EastEnders airs Monday to Thursday at 7.30pm on BBC One. The show is also streamed on BBC iPlayer.
