Coronation Street spoilers to follow.
Coronation Street has confirmed this year’s Christmas stories for the first time.
The ITV soap’s plans for the festive season have been teased by tabloid leaks, paparazzi photos and hints from the cast in recent weeks, but an official preview now offers a detailed guide to what’s in store.
What can we expect this year? Here are nine must-see storylines.
1. Tyrone’s Christmas Wedding Plans
It’s official – Tyrone and Fiz will be at the center of the festive main story this year.
The reunited couple get engaged again in the run up to Christmas, but Tyrone wastes no time before taking Fiz down the aisle.
Tyrone is determined to have a Christmas Day to remember – and to spare Fiz the stress of a long and drawn-out engagement. He secretly books the ceremony for December 25 and does all the planning himself, from the dress to the venue to the party.
Unfortunately, Fiz gets crushed when she mistakenly thinks that she and Tyrone don’t have anything special planned for Christmas Day. As Tyrone descends the stairs with Hope and Ruby, ready to put his plans into action, Fiz is nowhere to be seen.
Recent paparazzi photos showed Fiz heading out to get the last few supplies and found himself stranded on the road after a car broke down. Will she return in time for the carefully planned ceremony, or has Tyrone’s idea backfired?
2. Daniel is planning a proposal
A second rumored storyline has now been officially confirmed. As Daniel gets into the festive mood, he decides it’s time to commit to Daisy.
Daniel seeks the blessing of Daisy’s former stepmother, Jenny, and explains that he plans to pop the question. He also enlists the support of his father, Ken.
Unfortunately, Daniel’s romantic plans go horribly wrong when the Barlows’ home is broken into and the ring he intended to use is stolen.
Earlier this month, newspaper reports hinted that Daniel might eventually propose with a ring from a Christmas cracker, so let’s hope Daisy is in an understanding mood.
3. Max is pulled further in by the handle
Max is at it corrie‘s largest ongoing theme-based story, while extremist group leader Griff continues to nurture it. As Griff’s manipulations take their toll, the atmosphere in the Platt house is chilled as Max keeps clashing with David.
Increasingly alienated from his family, Max seeks a way out through his disturbing new friendships. Little does the teenager know that all is not as it seems, it is only a matter of time before he finds himself in danger.
4. Stephen considers killing again
Stephen got away with murder while covering up Leo’s death in September, but his troubles are far from over. The cunning villain desperately tries to cover his tracks about his escalating financial problems and the disturbing truth about Leo’s disappearance.
In the coming scenes, Stephen’s family begins to ask questions, and his ex-wife, Gabrielle, makes new threats about revealing what she knows about him.
Leo’s father Teddy also begins to doubt the reasons for his son’s disappearance.
HAS corrie Insider teased: “How long before Stephen thinks about murder again? And who will be his next victim?”
5. Nick’s deal with Harvey could backfire
corrie Star Ben Price recently announced a surprising new story for his character Nick, who takes desperate measures by accepting money from killer Harvey.
Nick takes the money from the jailed drug dealer after arranging the purchase of Debbie’s share of the bistro. The cost of this business decision escalates when Nick and Leanne discover the building is infested with dry rot.
Nick believes Harvey offered the money because he feels guilty after meeting with Sam to discuss Natasha’s death.
Of course, there’s a lot more to it than that, and Nick soon realizes there are a lot more strings attached, leading to sinister demands for blackmail.
This story ties in with the arrival of new character Damon. Damon played by shameless Star Ciaran Griffiths, is Jacob Hay’s father.
As the pressure of the situation mounts, the big question is whether Nick will be able to hide the truth from Leanne or whether their relationship will last until the New Year.
6. Summer faces important new decisions
corrie Bosses recently confirmed a tragedy headed for Summer as she suffers a miscarriage in the upcoming scenes. This also affects Mike and Esther after Summer promises to give them her baby for money.
The emotional fallout leads to Summer making another deal with the couple, promising to be a surrogate for her.
As the story progresses, Summer not only faces her own doubts and fears about pregnancy and diabetes, but also those of her family. Can she turn back the clock?
7. Sean’s future with Laurence is in jeopardy
Sean recently messed up his fledgling relationship with Laurence by snooping on his phone to see if his boyfriend was hiding something from him.
Show bosses have now singled out Sean and Laurence as the ones to keep an eye on over Christmas as we find out if they can cement their relationship. With some unexpected attempts from Todd to get between them, it certainly won’t be easy.
8. George is under pressure
George gave Eileen an imprudent Christmas present last year when he gave her a coffin and boasted he made a custom funeral plan for her.
The epic failure of 2021 means George is under pressure to make amends with Eileen this year. Fingers crossed for something less morbid.
9. Sally tries to treat Tim
Sally and Tim’s marriage faced challenges this year, culminating in the recent altercation when Sally accused Tim of having an emotional affair with her friend Aggie.
After the dust settles, Sally hopes that her gift to Tim can restore peace and harmony to their relationship.
Coronation Street airs Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 8pm on ITV1 and streams on ITVX.
