Google is bringing a new augmented reality Live View feature to its Maps app that will allow smartphone users to visually search for nearby restaurants, coffee shops, and other businesses.

With Live View, you can open Maps and tap the camera icon in the search bar to see what’s around you, from shops and banks to ATMs and bars. Google Maps provides AR-powered directions and arrows that give you an idea of how far a place is from you and how to get there. In addition, you can display important information about each location directly on the screen, e.g. B. whether it is open, what the price range is and how it is rated.

Google says users can tap place categories to see which restaurants, bars, dessert shops, parks, and transit stations are within walking distance.

Google previewed search with Live View back in September, but now the feature is ready to launch. It will launch in London, Los Angeles, New York, Paris, San Francisco and Tokyo starting next week.

Google is also introducing new features that will make it easier for EV owners to find the best charging station for their vehicles with a “fast charge” filter, and Google is expanding information on wheelchair-accessible, stair-free locations around the world.
