Apple this week added the Apple TV HD with the original Siri Remote to its vintage product list. According to an internal memo obtained by , the device became a vintage car on June 30th MacRumorsbut the publicly available list has only recently been updated.

When the Apple TV HD first launched in 2015, it came with a first-generation Siri Remote with no white ring around the menu button — only devices that came with that remote with no ring are now considered vintage. Apple added a white ring to the menu button in 2017 to make the button stand out when picking up the remote.

Apple TV HD devices that came with a white-ring Siri Remote (still considered a first-generation Siri Remote) or the second-generation Siri Remote (silver with a round trackpad) were not classified as vintage.

A device is classified as vintage if five years have passed since Apple last listed the device for sale. Vintage products are generally not eligible for repairs at Apple Retail Stores or Apple Authorized Service Providers unless parts are still available.

Apple continues to sell the Apple TV HD (originally known as the fourth-generation Apple TV) for $149. Aside from changes to the Siri Remote, the device hasn’t received any hardware upgrades since it was released nearly seven years ago.

According to analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, a new Apple TV is slated for release later in 2022 and could come with an A14 chip and 4GB more RAM.
