AN old Fair City favorite returns to Carrigstown tonight – but the new actress playing the role said it was “a bit daunting”.
Lynseyann Mulvey joins the cast of the RTE soap to play Kira Cassidy, who fans will remember as Mondo’s childhood sweetheart.
The couple made headlines when they became parents to Juliet when they were teenagers.
Taking on the role of an icon was “a little bit daunting” for Lynseyann, but she was “thrilled” to get the part.
She said: “My agent came to me and portrayed the character, who was a recurring character who wanted to start a new chapter.
“I was interested and looked at Kira and how she was just a teenager at the time and it seemed to me there would be a resemblance as an adult, which is a good start.”
Called in for an audition after rounds of selfies, Lynseyann worked alongside George McMahon, who plays Mondo, and Ella Barton, who plays her onscreen daughter Juliet.
She said: “I did a workshop with them and they were so nice, I felt so calm and comfortable.
“I thought it was going well and started hoping, and the next day I got a call to say I got the part … I was thrilled when I got my agent rank.”
But she admitted she was nervous and has “big boots” to fill Carrigstown.

She said: “I suppose I realized that the character was there before and the challenge is that people already know her, they remember her story from when she was a teenager.
“It’s probably a big issue when people remember the story, so I’d say it was a little bit disheartening.
“But the way I’ve seen it, she’s back as an adult now, she’s got a new story, Juliet is growing up and has her own thing going on.
“I think she’s great to play, she’s a good character. It was scary at first before I did it, but I fell into it.”
On the RTE soap, Kira’s ex Mondo and her daughter have no idea she’s returning to Carrigstown and are immediately suspicious as to why she’s there.
Lynseyann revealed: “She has been living in Liverpool lately and has been pursuing her fashion career.
“But now she’s back and everyone’s trying to figure her out, they all have doubts about her.
“She appeared out of nowhere and surprised everyone, they had no idea she was coming back.
“So Juliet and Mondo are all trying to figure out what her story is, how long is she planning to stay and why is she here?
“Everyone looks at her suspiciously, but I can tell she has some great storylines ahead of her.”
Lynseyann has been involved in theater since she was a child and has studied at the Gaiety, Bow Lane and in London.
READY FOR BIG TIME
But she said despite a lot of theater experience, she’s never done anything “on the scale of Fair City.”
She added: “I’m scared but also so excited I’ve been counting the days. It’s pretty big, which they like to remind you of on set. On my first day, they said, ‘It’s ok, only a million people are watching.'”
And Lynseyann has another touch in the showbiz world as she is set to marry former Mr. Ireland, Karl Bowe.
The couple are set to marry next September and said they met in a very new way.
She laughed: “I love telling people this story, we met on Instagram. I don’t even know how I got his photo, he was tagged with someone else I knew and I was like, ‘Your husband is nice and he’s an actor too, I’ll follow him.’
“Low and lo and behold, he followed me back and he asked, ‘Do I know you?’
“We struck up a conversation and had a lot of people that we knew in common and we had such a similar history. We got along so well that we decided to meet up on a date and the rest is history.
“I hear from everyone who’s met people on Tinder and POF, and we met online — but it was on Instagram.”
Karl is also an actor and model and Lynseyann said it helps both of them.
She said: “He has his own career and his own experience in this world, so he’s very understanding.
“He lines up with me, rehearses, and I’ve lost count of how many auditions we’ve done with each other to learn lines for each other.
“There’s two of us in it, but he’s very understanding and gets it.
“Poor Karl has been playing everyone in Fair City by this point, every character when I’m learning lines, but he plays them all with accents and so much enthusiasm.”
And Lynseyann, who is joining the soap tonight, is ready for the public to know who she is.
She said: “I’ve read some interviews about how the cast was recognized and had some conversations, heard some horror stories about being hit on on the street or nice stories about people stopping you for your story, well I wait with anticipation.
“When people call my character bad, I take that because I’m doing my job right, and it’s a compliment.”
- Lynseyann’s first appearance in Fair City airs tonight at 8pm on RTE One.
