American Airlines resumes Sydney flights

American Airlines will be back in Australian skies on October 29 after a five-month hiatus in its daily Los Angeles-Sydney service due to a shortage of long-haul aircraft.

The Oneworld member already suspended its daily transpacific service in May, but its return not only expands flight options between Sydney and LAX to complement Qantas’ flight schedule, but also doubles the opportunities for Qantas frequent flyer members to earn points Collect and redeem for seats in the States.

American Airlines’ return to Sydney will see it resume its heated competition with Virgin Australia’s long-time foe and newcomer United Airlines, along with Delta Air Lines for non-stop Sydney-US flights, while Hawaiian Airlines Flex continues to do so through its one-stop network in Honolulu.
