Inquiries for Donegal fashion brand Triona when Sarah Jessica Parker was spotted in her coat during filming

Sex And The City star Sarah Jessica Parker not only loves Ireland, she also loves Irish fashion.

In fact, SJP loved the coat she bought here on her last vacation and added to her wardrobe when she got down to work And just like that…filmed on the streets of New York.

When pictures emerged yesterday of the actress wearing a Faye coat by Irish brand Triona, staff at Donegal Town Shop revealed that the always stylish SJP was one of the first people to snap up the coat, which retails for €575.

Parker is a regular visitor to Co Donegal with her husband Matthew Broderick and the couple have a holiday home in Kilcar.

Emma Quinn, member of Triona’s design team, explains: “Sarah Jessica walked into the store one summer afternoon and saw the Faye coat and was instantly hooked.

“We only had a few samples of the coat made at the time, so she is the owner of one of the first Faye coats.

“She had mentioned to us that she was looking forward to putting it to good use in the winter.

“We assumed it was meant for the cold New York days, but maybe she had something more specific in mind at the time.”

Yesterday afternoon, as photos of the actress in the distinctive Prince of Wales checked tweed coat circulated on social media, inquiries were pouring in at fashion brand Donegal, which was founded in the Mulhern family home three decades ago.

Founded by Dennis Mulhern, the Triona brand has two retail stores and a visitor center.

Dennis’ daughter Catriona Mulhern forms the brand’s design team with wife Quinn. For their latest collection, they collaborated with freelance designer Caoimhe Grant.

Actress Sarah Jessica Parker has become an integral part of the hectic pace of Manhattan And just like that… set but is well known for enjoying the peace and quiet that she finds in Ireland’s North West on her holidays there. She is now a popular local visitor.

Ms Quinn, from Triona, said: “Sarah Jessica has always been a huge supporter of local brands and businesses in Donegal and spoke of her love and appreciation for the escapism they experience in Donegal.

“She is so down to earth and loves Donegal so much we were so grateful to her for highlighting our Donegal brand.

“We had such an overwhelming reaction to the news that Sarah Jessica was wearing our coat during filming.

“The support from other Irish brands and our customers has been so positive and we are so proud to stand out amongst some of the biggest fashion brands in the world.

“We look forward to welcoming Sarah and her family back to Donegal soon.”

The lambswool faye coat isn’t the only Irish element on the HBO Max show that Sex And the city Carrie, Miranda and Charlotte in late middle age.

Parker, 57, was spotted wearing a pigeon bird clutch by designer JW Anderson of Magherafelt, Co Derry, in early promotional footage for the second season.

In the first series, Gabrielle Malone of Clane, Co. Kildare was speechless in January when she saw one of her handknit cropped cardigans hanging in Carrie Bradshaw’s sprawling wardrobe.

Triona’s Ms Quinn said locals are trying to ensure the privacy of actors in the area is respected as the Broderick family come to Donegal on a regular basis. When Parker called in the summer, “we didn’t ask for photos.”

As Ms Quinn pointed out of the Brodericks: “Their Donegal home is in a rugged part of Donegal at the foot of the Slieve League Cliffs. This area is known for its exceptional yarn and knit quality, some of which we use in our Triona Donegal Tweed fabrics.

“Our goal at Triona is to preserve the beauty of Donegal tweed fabrics while introducing modern silhouettes that our customers can wear year after year.”
