The upcoming show shares some similarities with the Netflix hit.

Those craving another addictive mystery thriller after binge-watching hit Netflix series 1899 are in luck thanks to Amazon Prime Video’s upcoming series The rig.

The trailer for The Rig hit the internet this week and is being described as a supernatural thriller like in 1899 and also happens to be set in a maritime setting.

It follows the crew members of the North Sea-based oil rig Kinlock Bravo as they are scheduled to return to the mainland.

But a mysterious mist draws in, cutting off their communication with the outside world.

“With their chopper not arriving and supplies running low, rig boss Magnus (Game of Thrones’ Iain Glen) seeks to guide his already fractured crew through the unfolding crisis,” reads the synopsis.

“But his increasingly desperate efforts to reestablish contact with the mainland are repeatedly dashed as tensions and paranoia mount, the rig’s systems fail and a devastating accident leaves them all with the deadly dangers of one of the most extreme work environments on the planet.”

Alongside Glen, the series stars Schitt’s Creek’s Emily Hampshire as a skeptical oil company representative aboard the oil rig, as well as Line of Duty cast members Martin Compston, Mark Bonnar, Rochenda Sandall and Owen Teale.

Consisting of six episodes, The Rig lands on Prime Video on January 6th.
