The long-awaited third part of Sarah Lancashire’s drama has been a while in coming, with the final season airing back in 2016.
The BBC has now confirmed that the final season will premiere on April 24th New Year’s Day (Sunday, January 1st) on BBC One and BBC iPlayer below 21 clock. Watch a teaser below:

The show will see the return of Catherine Cawood from Lancashire seven years later, when she discovers “the remains of a gang murder victim in a drained reservoir,” which “starts a chain of events that leads her right back to Tommy Lee Royce.” [James Norton]”.
“Your grandson Ryan [Rhys Connah]Now sixteen, he has ideas of his own about how he wants to have a relationship with the man Catherine does not want to acknowledge as his father, leaving Catherine’s sister Clare [Siobhan Finneran] caught in the middle,” the synopsis continues.
“In another part of the valley, a local pharmacist gets involved beyond measure when a neighbor is arrested.”

Creator Sally Wainwright teased and opened up about the show’s time warp earlier this year RadioTimes: “I think it will be good. I think it will be exciting. We have some very good stories.
“Everyone’s back – all the characters you’d expect are back. We are seven years later.
“The plan was to wait for Ryan to get older so that he could decide for himself whether or not he wanted to have contact with his father.
