After multiple leaks and weeks of hype, the Apex Legends anime-themed Gaiden event kicks off today at 10:00am PT / 1:00pm ET. But Respawn Entertainment starts the fight early by releasing a fully animated event trailer like no other.
The trailer shows several Legends in their Gaiden event skins teaming up to defeat Revenant, who has unleashed an army of Specters on the Outlands. Wattson, Crypto, Octane, Mirage, Revenant, and Bangalore all make appearances in the two-minute trailer, each showing off their event outfits as they battle to defeat the vicious simulacrum.
Wattson, disguised as Naruto, almost gets crushed in the early moments of the trailer before being saved by Crypto’s drone hack. But the victory doesn’t last long – Crypto (disguised as Goku) is promptly impaled on Revenant’s scythe and immediately falls to the ground.
Luckily all is not lost. Octane swoops in disguised as One Piece’s Luffy and takes out an entire squad of Specters before they can do any damage. But Revenant – whose appearance is based on Neon Genesis Evangeloion’s EVA Unit 09 – has brought support in the form of a second team of Spectres.
Just when things are looking bleak, Mirage appears in his My Hero Academia outfit and convinces Revenant to slaughter his own Specter squad. He calls for more reinforcements, which are quickly dispatched by the other Legends. The enraged Revenant quadruples in size (you can practically hear him screaming, “That’s not even my final form!”) and begins wreaking havoc on his surroundings, King Kong-style.
But his destructive burst is interrupted by another giant creature: a Godzilla-sized Nessie. The giant sea creature lets out a few delightful, squeaky war cries before Bangalore (who appears to have ridden the beast into battle) lunges at Revenant. The trailer ends with the former IMC soldier leading her fellow Legends to victory in her new Prestige skin. Crypto’s fate is unknown, but it’s likely that one of the Respawn Beacons revived him.
The trailer – the only animated event trailer in Apex Legends history – was created by the team at tit animations. Players who like the Legends’ new anime looks can also use the Apex Legends official VTuber avatars, which include Mirage, Octane, and Bangalore in their Gaiden event skins.
Apex Legends is free to play on console and PC. A mobile version of the game, Apex Legends Mobile, is available for download on Android and iOS devices.
