Amazon founder Jeff Bezos and girlfriend Lauren Sanchez have given their first TV interview together, in which the pair gushed over each other and sang praises to each other.

Bezos, 58, the fourth richest person in the world, and Sanchez, 52, said the couple’s partnership is strengthened because they are “teammates.”

“We’re really great teammates, and we also have a lot of fun together and we love each other… We always look at each other and we’re the team,” Sanchez said during the interview, which aired on CNN.

‘It’s easy. We bring each other energy, we respect each other. So it’s fun to work together,” added Bezos.

Bezos, who is also the founder of space company Blue Origin, believes that anyone who wants to go to space will have the opportunity to do so in their lifetime.

‘I do [believe space travel will be attainable for everyone]. Let me give you an example. The Wright brothers flew this tiny little plane just a few hundred feet away. And if you told the Wright brothers a hundred years from now there’s going to be a 787 that carries 400 people, they’d laugh,” Bezos said.

Sanchez, a former Emmy-winning journalist born in Albuquerque, New Mexico, also announced that she plans to go to space next year with an “amazing group of women” to accompany her.

Sanchez holds her own pilot’s license and in 2016 founded Black Ops Aviation, the first female-led aerial film and production company.

“I also learned how to fly the helicopter,” Bezos added. “And she’s a terrible backseat pilot. She’s terrible!’

“I’ve realized that if I’m in the back of the helicopter when it’s flying, I just have to look out the window, just enjoy the scenery,” Sanchez laughed. ‘I’m like, ‘No, no. Pulling up. In order. OK, slow down. But he is very good.”

The couple, who are usually relatively private when it comes to their relationship, saw Bezos thicken the compliments.

“Lauren is the most generous and generous person you would ever meet. So in that way she’s an inspiration. She never misses a birthday. The network of people she gives birthday presents to is gigantic. And that is just a small example.”

The couple also revealed what they’re up to on a Saturday night, and joked that their night was nothing special.

“We can be pretty boring,” Sanchez said, laughing. “Normally I would say. We have dinner with the kids. It’s always fun and a great conversation. There are seven of us, so there is a lot of discussion. And then we’ll see a movie… by committee. It takes a long time to find this film.’

“We probably spend more time picking the movie than we need to,” Bezos added.

During the interview, Bezos said he will give away most of his wealth while he is alive, becoming the youngest billionaire to commit to donating much of his vast fortune.

Bezos, whose “real-time value” Forbes magazine estimates at around $117 billion, made the announcement during the interview.

The billionaire hasn’t revealed how — or to whom — he’ll be gifting the money, but said the couple is building the “capacity” to do so.

“The hard part is figuring out how to do it in a leveraged way,” Bezos said during the interview. ‘It is not easy. Building Amazon wasn’t easy. It took a lot of hard work and very smart teammates. And I find – and Lauren’s insight – that philanthropy is very similar. It is not easy. It’s really hard.’

Bezos had been criticized in the past for not signing the Giving Pledge, the campaign launched by Bill Gates, Melinda French Gates and Warren Buffet to encourage billionaires to donate the bulk of their wealth through philanthropy.

Bezo’s ex-wife McKenzie Scott signed that pledge in 2019 and has since grown into a formidable force in the world of philanthropy, showering unexpected — and often secret — donations to charities across the country.

Over the past three years, she has donated more than $12 billion to historically black colleges and universities, women’s rights groups, and other charitable organizations.

Bezos, who divorced Scott in 2019, resigned as Amazon CEO last year to devote more time to philanthropy and other projects.

Among other donations, he has pledged $10 billion to help fight climate change as part of his Bezos Earth Fund initiative.

According to The Chronicle of Philanthropy, he gave $510.7 million to charity last year.

Last week, Bezos pledged $100 million to Dolly Parton to help children around the world access books.

Parton, 76, became the youngest-ever recipient of the Courage and Civility Award at the Bezos Awards. The recipient will receive $100 million to “donate to the charities they see fit.”

The beloved singer appeared shocked when she was awarded the mammoth sum – adding: “Did you say $100 million?”

“I’ve always said, ‘I try to put my money where my heart is,'” the country music legend said upon accepting her award. “I will do my best to do good with this money,” she promised.

The couple say they wanted to bring a “little bit of light” to people who solve problems with unity rather than conflict.

“We wanted to amplify their voices because the really negative voices seem to be amplified in this world,” she said. “I think the work that we’re doing with the Bezos Courage and Civility Award needs to have a voice,” Sánchez added during the CNN interview.

“And the people we’ve picked so far, Van Jones, Jose Andres, Dolly Parton, they all have stories like that to tell. I’m just honored to be a part of what they do for this world.”

The award “recognizes leaders who aim high, find solutions, and always do it with courtesy,” Bezos’ longtime friend Lauren Sanchez said at the awards show last week
